ABCloudz is seeking a senior-level data platform engineer to support and improve production SQL Server and Snowflake environments within a consulting engagement. This role is focused on stability, performance, and simplification of existing systems, not greenfield development. The environment includes a complex SQL Server architecture that requires careful analysis and controlled improvement, along with an existing Snowflake platform that must be supported and maintained. The ideal candidate brings strong SQL Server experience and has already worked hands-on with Snowflake in a real-world environment. This is not a role for someone learning either platform for the first time.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintain SQL Server (primary) and Snowflake (secondary) production environments
- Analyze existing database architecture and identify opportunities for simplification and improvement
- Troubleshoot performance, reliability, and data access issues across systems
- Manage database security, access controls, and operational standards
- Ensure platform stability for downstream analytics and reporting workloads
- Work within defined processes for estimation, change management, and security compliance
- Diagnose and resolve SQL Server performance issues using execution plans, indexing, and workload analysis
- Optimize database architecture, backup/recovery, maintenance plans, and high availability configurations
- Identify and mitigate locking, blocking, and resource contention issues
- Support Snowflake environments including warehouses, roles, and access controls
- Monitor query performance and warehouse utilization in Snowflake
- Troubleshoot Snowflake data access and query behavior issues
- Collaborate with data engineering and BI teams to ensure platform readiness
- Validate and clarify incoming requests before execution
- Balance responsiveness with risk and impact assessment
- Document findings, decisions, and recommendations
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server experience in production environments
- Proven experience diagnosing and resolving database performance issues
- Strong knowledge of database security, access control, and operational best practices
- Hands-on experience working with Snowflake in a production environment (beyond querying)
- Ability to evaluate existing systems and recommend improvements without introducing instability
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in consulting or client-facing roles
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
- Familiarity with ETL and data pipelines (supporting role)
- Experience working in regulated or security-sensitive environments
