AWS DMS is a fully managed service that allows for easy migration of databases from various sources to various targets with minimal downtime and ongoing replication capabilities. Start your migration journey today and unlock the potential of your data!
Use AWS Database Migration Service to smoothly, quickly, and cost-efficiently run migrations from a source database to a target database almost without downtime and with full control over the process. We can help you set up custom mapping rules for AWS DMS to take full advantage of this service. For very large data volumes, you may need to use the AWS Snowball service to ship your data to an AWS data center and then load it into your target AWS RDS or Amazon Redshift database. Our experts can help develop strategies and customized data movement scripts using popular data integration tools to ensure data integrity throughout the project.
Our AWS DMS support goes hand-in-hand with the following services:
AWS DMS is a fully managed service that makes it easy to migrate databases to and from the cloud. It supports a wide range of databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and more, and enables organizations to quickly and easily move their data to the cloud for improved scalability, reliability, and security. In this section, we will explore some of the key benefits of using AWS DMS for your database migrations.
Benefit |
Explanation |
Cost-efficiency |
Cloud costs are higher than expected for 6 in 10 organizations. The main reasons are inefficient resource allocation and the absence of the best cloud practices. With our support services, AWS DMS allows you to migrate terabyte-sized databases cost-efficiently while paying only for the compute resources and additional log storage used. |
Simplified migration process |
Too many things to consider while running a database migration? This makes migrations quite a challenge, especially when any conversion error or missed feature can ruin the target system and your critical business processes. Fortunately, with our configurations, AWS DMS will help you easily find, assess, convert, and migrate your database assets with its automation features. |
Minimized downtime during migration |
Downtime is one of the most common and costly problems during database migrations. Each minute of application system downtime costs companies an average of $9,000. The good news is that AWS DMS provides the Multi-AZ feature, as well as ongoing data replication and monitoring to maintain a high availability and minimal downtime during the migration process. |
Support for multiple database engines and platforms |
If you have issues with migrating legacy databases or heterogeneous data systems to AWS, DMS comes in handy. We use it to handle heterogenous and homogenous migrations from various sources, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Azure SQL database, Google Cloud for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and other databases. |
Scalability and flexibility |
Problems with efficiently responding to the growing workloads can turn into extra cloud costs or database system performance issues. Fortunately, our AWS-certified specialists can easily configure AWS DMS so that it will automatically scale a replication instance to handle a higher load when required and save money (scale down) when the load is low. |
In all these use cases, ABCloudz as an Advanced Partner with AWS can provide expert guidance to help organizations plan and execute their migrations with minimal disruption to their business operations.
AWS DMS enables organizations to easily migrate their on-premises databases to the cloud, allowing them to take advantage of the scalability, reliability, and security offered by AWS. This can include migrating databases from physical servers or virtual machines running in an on-premises data center to AWS RDS, Aurora, or EC2. By moving to the cloud, organizations can also benefit from automatic backups, automatic software updates, and the ability to scale resources on-demand.
AWS DMS also allows organizations to migrate their databases between different cloud providers. This can be useful for organizations that want to move their databases to a different cloud provider for cost savings, better performance, or to take advantage of different features and capabilities.
AWS DMS can be used to replicate databases to a different region for disaster recovery purposes. This can help to ensure that organizations can quickly recover from any disruptions to their primary databases, such as power outages, natural disasters, or cyberattacks.
AWS DMS also supports migrating databases to a different database engine. This can be useful for organizations that want to take advantage of the benefits offered by a different database engine, such as better performance, scalability, or security features.

At ABCloudZ, we believe optimal data environments is your greatest competitive advantage. It is why over the last 18 years, our team has dedicated ourselves to helping hundreds of organizations – from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies – with architecting cloud solutions, optimizing complex data workloads and managing workloads on an on-going basis – no matter where those datasets may reside.
Our mission is to help businesses accurately, efficiently, and reliably build, move and manage data workloads for businesses who may not have the time or dedicated resources to fully own and stay current on the latest best practices and skills required to handle such complexities.
The ABCloudz team helped a large provider of IT services migrate their data assets from Oracle to PostgreSQL on AWS. A critical role in delta (partial) data migrations was given to AWS DMS. One of its jobs captured the required schema changes between the source and the target database and stored them in the S3 Bucket. Our custom utility captured these changes and applied the required transformations to adjust data tables and schema to the requirements of the target databases.
We also helped a large educational technology company migrate its data warehouse from Oracle and MS SQL to PostgreSQL on Amazon RDS in an effort to improve its cost efficiency. AWS DMS creates Parquet files involving the compressed data that are used to migrate this data from Oracle to Amazon S3, where it is deployed to a cloud-based PostgreSQL. The second stage of this ongoing migration involves creating Parquet files that are migrated from PostgreSQL to the target PostgreSQL by an ETL job.
